What is Japanese PSE certification?

PSE certification is a mandatory safety certification for electrical appliances in Japan, and a mandatory market access system for electrical appliances in Japan. According to different products, PSE certification is divided into "specific electrical appliances" and "non-specific electrical appliances". The nameplate of the former is affixed with a diamond PSE mark, and the nameplate of the latter is affixed with a circular PSE mark. Different types of products have different PSE certification costs.

Products within the scope of the diamond-shaped PSE certification are included in the catalog of "specified electrical appliances". To enter the Japanese market, they must pass the certification of a third-party certification body authorized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan, obtain the PSE certificate and affix the diamond-shaped PSE logo on the nameplate. 

Products within the scope of the circular PSE certification, which belong to the catalog of "non-specific electrical appliances", must undergo self-testing and self-declaration or be entrusted by a third-party certification body to confirm compliance with the Japanese electrical appliances technical standards and be on the nameplate A round PSE logo is added.

Diamond PSE certification and round PSE certification

Japan's "Electrical Appliance Safety Law" stipulates that 498 products must pass safety certification to enter the Japanese market. Among them, 165 types of A products shall obtain the diamond-shaped PSE mark, and 333 types of B products shall obtain the round PSE mark.

PSE diamond certification: certification scope of Class A specific electrical appliances

(1) Wires and cables, fuses, wiring appliances (electrical accessories, lighting appliances, etc.), current limiters, transformers, ballasts

(2) Electric heating appliances, electric power application mechanical appliances (household appliances), electronic application mechanical appliances (high-frequency epilator)

(3) Other AC electrical machinery (electrical insecticide, DC power supply device), portable engine

Remarks: Definition of "specified electrical appliances": electrical appliances with a high probability of occurrence in terms of structure, usage, or other conditions of use: ①Used without surveillance for a long time; ②Used by socially disadvantaged groups; ③Electrical appliances used in direct contact with the human body.

 

PSE circular certification: Category B Japanese non-specific electrical PSE certification scope

Japan’s round PSE mark certified products, all products in the “non-specific electrical appliances” catalog that enter the Japanese market must be tested by a laboratory accredited by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan to confirm that they meet the Japanese electrical appliances technical standards and obtain a qualified test report PSE certificate, the PSE circular logo can be affixed to the product, and the product can be sold in the Japanese market.

(1) The PSE circular certification is generally for the whole product;

(2) The round PSE does not require a shorter audit cycle;

(3) The round PSE can be tested and certified by a Japanese accredited laboratory;

(5) According to the DENAN law, manufacturers are obliged to save test results and certificates;

(6) There must be a round PSE mark on the label.
